I have used the following products while building my off-the-grid solar electric sailboat. I encourage you to check them out and see if they are a fit for your project!

Renogy Deep Cycle AGM Battery 12 Volt 200Ah, 3% Self-Discharge Rate, 2000A Max Discharge Current, Safe Charge Most Home Appliances for RV, Camping, Cabin, Marine

I have 4 of these batteries wired in series to generate 48 volts to power the 10kw electric motor in my boat. At 128 lbs. each, they are heavy. Over the course of several weeks, I trained with weights so I would be able to move them around. Being sealed, they are safe to mount in the cabin. But not upside down! If, for some reason these batteries get turned upside down, I have greater problems to deal with. I used the mainsail boom to do the heavy lifting and placed them just above the keel. These and a smaller set of 12 volt, 125ah AGM batteries are on a marine A/B switch in case one bank of batteries gets depleted. When I bought these batteries, they were cheaper on Amazon than they were on Renogy's website.

4 pack-Renogy 12V 200Ah Lithium LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery, 5000+Deep Cycles, 200A BMS

These new Renogy LifePO4 batteries can be wired in series. Renogy says their capacity is 6% higher than rated amp-hours, so 4 of them should do. The Bluetooth version of these batteries cannot be wired in series, unfortunately.

Renogy 48v LiFePO4 battery

If you elect to buy these lithium batteries, keep in mind that they must be wired in parallel. The LiFePO4 batteries are said to be much safer than old technology lithium batteries, however, they also require lithium compatible charging systems. These batteries contain a built in power management system (PMS) that will protect them from adverse conditions. PMS does consume some power, unless turned off. The 10kW motor can draw over 200 amps at full throttle. Renogy technical support recommended 5 of these 50kWh batteries for a 10kW motor

SEACHOICE Battery Select Switch, Disconnect Isolator Cutoff, Dual, 12 -50V

I have 2 of these switches on my boat, one for the house 12v battery banks, and one for the 48v motor battery banks. If you decide to have battery switches for multiple sets of batteries, make sure they are the 4 position (1/2) switches and can handle the voltage and amperage you are using.

1200 Watt Solar Panel Kit, with 2pcs Charge Controller(40A) 2pcs 600 Watt Flexible Monocrystalline Solar Panel

I bought the 1000 watt version of this solar panel. This 1200 watt version is now the same price. Who doesn't want more power?

12 Gauge Marine Wire,30ft 12 AWG Duplex Marine Grade Wire Tinned Copper

My sailboat was built with 12 AWG tinned copper wire. I used the same size, although I could have gone with a smaller wire size. Here is a cool wire size calculator: https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/wire-size

Ancor Marine Grade Primary Wire and Battery Cable

As a proof of concept, I used #2 copper automobile starter wires to connect my batteries in series to power the motor. Although the wires were big enough to carry the current safely, copper oxidizes rapidly in salty air. I should have used tinned copper wiring rated for marine use in the beginning. It would have saved some money in the long run. I rewired using 2/0 sized tinned copper stranded marine wire in order to reduce any electricity loss due to resistance, and hydraulically crimped terminals with heat shrunk insulation. When planning your battery layout, try to place batteries close to each other and the motor controller.

AMZCNC Hydraulic Crimping Tool and Cable Cutter Hydraulic Cable Lug Crimper 8 US TON 12 AWG to 00 (2/0) Electrical Terminal Cable Wire Tool Kit with 9 Die

When I crimped the 3/8" battery terminals onto the new 2/0 sized marine rated wiring, I borrowed a friend's hydraulic crimper. I wasn't able to get it working. I bought this one and it worked well. Apparently there was a leak in my friend's crimper, and there wasn't enough hydraulic fluid in it. Now that I have my own, I have found several uses for it!

Volt Amp Meter, DC 5-100V 100A Waterproof Dual Display Current Voltage Meter, Digital Mini Ammeter Voltmeter Gauge with Hall Effect Sensor Current Transformer

This little gadget was recommended to me by a fellow sailor, who happens to be an electrical engineer. I passed a cable from the battery through the hole to the controller and mounted the gauge on my instrument panel. Now I know how much current I'm using at a glance!

Walfront 40A Solar Charge Controller for Variety Batteries BSC3048 12V/24V/36V/48V Solar Panel Charge Controller Intelligent Regulator with 5V USB Port

What's not to love about this charge controller? I use one to connect a set of solar panels to my 12v battery circuit, and one to connect another set of panels to the 48v drive battery array. Keep in mind that the input voltage needs to be higher than the charge voltage. I have 2 arrays of 4 solar panels, with each panel generating 20v, so I made a serial cable to make the incoming current 80 volts. This controller easily handles 10 amps of current. This controller will also charge lithium batteries.

Renogy 3000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter 12V DC to 120V AC Converter

I first bought a cheap modified sine wave inverter, but I could tell because of the buzzing noises, my appliances weren't happy. This Renogy pure sine wave inverter powers my dorm sized refrigerator, coffee pot, entertainment center, and microwave oven without that buzzing noise.

Minn Kota 1352270M Endura 30 lb. Thrust, 30" Shaft, Battery Meter

This is the motor I used for my kayak in the book, "Zombies Don't Swim". Although it isn't rated for saltwater, I haven't had any problems with it yet.

3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 5200 (06520) Permanent Bonding and Sealing for Boats and RVs Above and Below the Waterline Waterproof Repair, White, 10 fl oz

This product is a must-have to keep on your boat! I used it when installing the toe/rub rail as an adhesive and sealant where the deck meets the hull. Although it is a permanent adhesive, you can remove it with a sharp blade if needed.

INTERLUX - Fiberglass Bottomkote NT, Paint For Fiberglass Boats

I have used Interlux antifouling paint for the bottom with good results. I use a special polyurethane roller for this paint. A gallon can covered the bottom of my 30' sailboat. Please check the rules and regulations in your area before selecting antifouling paint.

Interlux Y220/QT Yacht Enamel - Semi Gloss White

I used this paint on my hull and topside. People are amazed that it is a one-part paint. If I had all the time and money in the world, I would use the 2-part epoxy paint, but this enamel isn't bad. Prep the surface well, according to directions, and use a primer if necessary. I found that I got better results using a brush with horizontal strokes rather than a roller.

Interlux YJB000/QT Interdeck Slip-Resistant Deck Paint

I invited a friend to go sailing one day. The wind was perfect, and he was an experienced sailor. We got my little boat up over 9 knots, the fastest my boat had gone since I owned it. When we landed, he told me that he noticed a slippery spot on the deck. I hadn't noticed it before, but he was right. I used this "Interdeck" paint on the deck and scuppers, No more slipping!

Marine Part Depot Stainless Steel 316 Folding Mast Step

If you don't have steps going up your mast, you might regret not installing them. I was glad I had installed mine before my spreader got ripped off in a windstorm. Instead of having to call a towboat, I was able to make a new bracket and re-attach the spreader while on the hook!

And now, for something completely different. This motor is featured in my book, "Zombies Don't Swim". Before electrifying my boat, I installed this kit on my bicycle. It made my commute to work in downtown Seattle pleasant.
